The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) has the role of accurately valuing and classifying properties in Ontario in accordance with the Assessment Act and the regulations established by the Ontario Government. MPAC provides a range of services including the preparation of the annual assessment rolls for use by municipalities and the Province of Ontario to calculate property taxes and education taxes. When your municipality/local taxing authority sets property tax rates, your assessed value and classification are used to determine your property taxes. An assessment increase does not necessarily mean your taxes will increase.

For more information about MPAC, please call 1-866-296-6722.

County Tax Rebate

The County offers a tax relief program for low-income seniors and low-income persons with disabilities. The intent of this program is to provide a mechanism to assist those least able to pay a significant increase in taxes due to a reassessment. Applications must be received by the first of November of the taxation year in which the relief is being requested.

Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant

In addition to the tax rebate offered by the County, the Province provides a grant to help low income seniors with the cost of their property taxes. For more information on the Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant program, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Finance website.

The County offers a tax rebate program for charities and other similar organizations that either own or lease space in a commercial or industrial property. County Council has approved a rebate of 40% of taxes paid by an eligible charity on the eligible property it occupies. Applications, accompanied by proof of taxes paid, should be directed to the Township of Mapleton's Finance Department. Requests may be submitted between January 1 of the taxation year and the last day of February of the following taxation year.
